Who we are
Carne Haven is a self-catering holiday house at Gillan Cove, Cornwall, run by its owners. In this policy "we", "us" and "our" mean Carne Haven, and we are the data controller for the information described here.
You can reach us by email at hello@carnehaven.co.uk, by phone on 07976 691361, or by post at Carne Haven, 99 Brentwood Road, Brighton BN1 7ET. That last one is our correspondence address, not the house. The house itself is at Gillan Cove, Cornwall.
What we collect
We only collect what you give us directly:
- Your email address if you sign up for our 5 day guide.
- Your name, email address and anything else you choose to tell us when you enquire by email or phone.
- Booking details such as your name, dates, number of guests, whether you are bringing dogs, and a contact number and address when you book a stay.
- Payment information, which is handled by our booking system, Anytime Booking, and their payment processor. We never see or store full card details.
We do not use website analytics, so we do not track how you move around the site. Our web host keeps standard server logs, which may include your IP address, for security and troubleshooting.
There are no cameras, recording devices or listening devices anywhere at the property, inside or out.
How we use it
- To send you the 5 day guide you asked for.
- To take and manage your booking and contact you about your stay.
- To answer enquiries and look after you while you are here.
- To send occasional news and offers about Carne Haven, if you have asked us to.
- To meet our legal, insurance and accounting obligations.
Legal basis
We rely on your consent for the guide and for marketing emails, which you can withdraw at any time. We rely on our contract with you to take and run your booking. We rely on our legal obligations to keep financial records.
Marketing
If you sign up for the guide, you are also agreeing to occasional emails about availability, offers and news from the house. There is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every one, and using it stops them straight away. We do not pass your details to anyone else for their marketing, and we never sell data.
Who sees your data
Only the owners see your details. Nobody else at the property, and no agent, has access to them.
We use a small number of suppliers to run the business, and your data passes through their systems: Anytime Booking for bookings and payments, Kit for emails, and Bluehost for website hosting. We also share data where the law requires it, for example with HMRC. That is the full list.
Where your data is held
Kit, the service we use to send emails, is based in the United States, so your email address is stored on servers outside the UK. Transfers of that kind are covered by safeguards approved under UK data protection law. Everything else is held in the UK or the EU.
Cookies
We do not use analytics, tracking or advertising cookies of our own. Our booking system may set a cookie that is strictly necessary to hold your selection while you make a booking.
The Setting page includes a map embedded from Google Maps. When that page loads, Google may set its own cookies and receive your IP address. That is Google's own processing, covered by their privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. If you would rather avoid it, you can block third-party cookies in your browser settings. The rest of the site works without that page.
Every page on this site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. To deliver them, Google receives your IP address. No cookie is set by this and we receive nothing from it. It is covered by the same Google privacy policy above.
How long we keep it
We keep booking and payment records for 6 years after your stay, which is the period we need them for tax purposes. Enquiries that do not lead to a booking are deleted within 12 months. Marketing contacts are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can withdraw consent or unsubscribe at any time. There is no charge, and we will respond within one month. Email hello@carnehaven.co.uk and tell us what you need.
Complaints
If something about the way we handle your data is not right, please tell us first at hello@carnehaven.co.uk so we can put it right.
If you would rather take it further, or you are not happy with how we have dealt with it, you can write to the UK Information Commissioner's Office, the independent regulator for data protection. Their guidance on making a complaint is at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
