Carne Haven is on the Lizard, on the south side of the Helford River, above Gillan Cove near Manaccan. The postcode is TR12 6HF, and there is a map on The Setting page.
The final approach is an unmade farm track with speed bumps. Take them slowly and give yourself time. The track is not suitable for low slung vehicles.
Private parking for 3 cars at the house. Parking down at Gillan Cove itself is residents only, which is part of what keeps the cove so quiet.
Six, across 3 bedrooms. A super king size room with garden and sea views, a king size room with garden views, and a zip-link room that makes up as a super king or a twin.
Upstairs. The house has a reverse floor plan, so the main living space sits on the top floor and takes the sea views. The staircase is a spiral one, worth knowing before you book.
Yes, and it is good enough to work from. Fine for video calls, streaming and a working week if you need one. Mobile signal is good on most networks too, which is not a given on this stretch of coast.
Oil fired central heating throughout, and a wood burner in the living room. We leave firelighters, matches, kindling and enough wood to get you started, plus details of local suppliers if you want more.
No, there is no charger at the house. Please arrive with enough charge to get you to a public charger and back.
A full shaker kitchen opening to a dining space, with the conservatory alongside. In the kitchen there is a dishwasher, an electric oven and hob, a fridge and a cafetiere. The utility room on the ground floor has a washing machine, a tumble dryer and a separate fridge freezer, so there is plenty of cold storage for a full house.
Carne Haven is a no smoking property. That covers the house, the summer house, the sauna, the garden and the decking, and vaping is treated the same way.
Yes, up to 2 dogs, at £20 per dog per stay. The South West Coast Path runs right past the gate, so the walking starts at the front door.
Yes, both. Ask for them when you book.
Yes, a week, Saturday to Saturday.
Check in from 4pm on Saturday, check out by 10am on Saturday.
We are not able to offer this. Our housekeepers need the full changeover window to get the house ready for the next guests.
A deposit of 25% secures your dates. The balance is due 12 weeks before you arrive. If you book within 12 weeks of your stay, the full amount is payable at the time of booking.
The 25% deposit is not refundable. If you cancel within 12 weeks of arrival the full cost of the stay remains payable, and if we manage to re-let your dates we will refund whatever we recover, less the deposit. We always recommend taking out travel insurance that covers cancellation. The full wording is on the Terms page.
Through the availability calendar on the Book page. Booking direct means the best rate and no middleman.
The sauna is included in the price from October to the end of March. From April to the end of September you can add it for £150 for the week.
The sauna is for adults only, so nobody under 18. It also sits on the upper level of the garden and is reached by steps, which makes it unsuitable for anyone with limited mobility. Worth knowing before you book.
The cove beach is a 2 minute walk from the front door, and Flushing Beach is just round the corner.
Yes. It is a protected cove opening to the sea, sheltered enough to stay close in or to strike out into deeper water.
The cove suits kayaks and paddleboards well, with help close by for launching anything bigger.
St Keverne, a 15 minute drive.
The New Inn at Manaccan, a 35 minute walk along the water or a 2 mile drive. Email us and we will send our list of the other places worth booking.
Mullion Golf Club, the most southerly course on mainland Britain, is under 30 minutes by car, and visitors can play.
